How’s the summer been treating you? Sunny? Hot? Humid? Itchy and annoying? If the last two on that list are the more familiar, you might be dealing with one of the most popular, and frustrating, summer pests–mosquitoes. Rose Pest Solutions has a gigantic info bomb right here to help you figure out where they’re coming from and how to get rid of them for good!

You may not realize it, but mosquitoes have the potential to be much more dangerous than simply leaving unsightly, itchy-as-heck bumps. Mosquitoes are what we call “vector pests,” which means they can transfer diseases to humans. From Zika to West Nile to Malaria, the results can be disastrous.

If you assumed there’d be an infographic in this post, you assume correctly! We love them, and so do our friends at the National Pest Management Association (NPMA). One of the simplest ways to keep your yard mosquito free is to eliminate any water sources where they breed. Mosquitoes only need half an inch of water to do so, which mean you may overlook a lot of common places. Start here:

WHAT ELSE CAN I DO TO AVOID BEING BITTEN?

While infographics are filled with information, they can’t cover everything. You know we’re all about communication and understanding with our clients, so we won’t ever leave you high and dry!

  • Apply repellent over top of sunscreen, and reapply every four to six hours.
  • Minimizing outside activity between dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active, though it is important to note that mosquitoes that transmit chikungunya are active throughout the day.
  • Wearing long pants, long-sleeved shirts and closed-toe shoes when outdoors.
  • Screening windows and doors, and patching torn screens.
  • If there are concerns about mosquito activity on the property, contact a licensed pest control company or the local mosquito abatement district.
  • People who are spending long amounts of time outdoors should also consider wearing long pants, long-sleeved shirts and closed-toe shoes to limit exposure to mosquitoes. The main type of mosquito that carries Zika is a daytime biter, so taking preventive measures at all times of the day is crucial.
  • Anyone traveling outside of the United States should be aware of travel advisories currently in effect. Pack plenty of insect repellent and protective clothing. If a person falls ill upon returning home, seek prompt medical attention.

WHAT IF MOSQUITOES ARE UNAVOIDABLE?

Even with the best mosquito prevention and mosquito treatment, it’s still possible to have to have to deal with mosquitoes. If you’ve done anything and everything to protect your home, yourself and your loved ones from these itch-inducing pests, your best bet is proper mosquito repellent! Used correctly, you can go camping, hiking, or just spend a nice night by the lake munching on s’mores without worrying about waking up covered in red bites!
