Our responsible mosquito control services

First, contact us. Most mosquitoes are active at dusk and dawn, but some bite during the daytime. Use insect repellent containing EPA-approved active ingredients on exposed skin whenever or wherever mosquitoes are likely to bite. To eliminate or reduce mosquito breeding sites, dump or replace all standing water at least weekly. This includes bird baths, tarps, pet bowls, kiddie pools and anything that can hold a Tablespoon of water or more. Keep vegetation trimmed to minimize mosquito resting sites. Make sure screens are in place and free of tears or holes on all doors, windows and other openings. Keep your pets protected, too, with preventative medication obtained by your veterinarian.

Three Most Common Types of Mosquitoes

Aedes Mosquitoes

Often called “container mosquitoes,” Aedes mosquitoes are aggressive daytime biters.

They are known for breeding in small amounts of standing water around homes, including flowerpots, buckets, toys, birdbaths, clogged gutters, and old tires. Aedes mosquitoes are often black with white markings and may bite around ankles, legs, and arms during the day. Unlike some mosquitoes that prefer larger water sources, Aedes mosquitoes can develop close to where people live, which makes yard maintenance especially important. Aedes mosquito larvae, also known as wigglers, breathe air through a tube and hang down at an angle in water.

Aedes mosquitoes are also the mosquito group associated with spreading viruses such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and yellow fever in areas where those diseases are present.

Culex Mosquitoes

Culex mosquitoes are most active from dusk through nighttime and are known to spread West Nile virus.

These mosquitoes often lay eggs in standing water that is more permanent or stagnant, such as storm drains, ditches, neglected pools, birdbaths, and containers around the yard. Culex larvae, also known as wigglers, breathe oxygen through a tube and are often found resting at an angle in water.

Culex mosquitoes are commonly found in homes and will readily bite people and pets indoors.

Anopheles Mosquitoes

Anopheles mosquitoes are the mosquito group capable of spreading malaria. They are very common and are aggressive biters.

Anopheles mosquitoes often rest and feed at a noticeable angle, with their bodies slanted rather than flat against a surface. Their larvae are also different because they rest parallel to the water’s surface instead of hanging down like many other mosquito larvae. They are commonly associated with freshwater habitats, including ponds, marshes, ditches, and other natural or semi-natural water sources.
