Call 1-800-GOT-PESTS?

Summer travel season is finally here! Whether you’re planning a beach trip, a girls’ getaway, or a family adventure, there’s one thing you don’t want to bring back: bed bugs. If you’ve ever dealt with them before, you know it’s more than just a nuisance—it’s a stressful, time-consuming nightmare.

Here’s how to stay one step ahead of these sneaky hitchhikers.

Bed Bug Best Practices

Bed bugs don’t just live in beds. These tiny pests can hide in:

  • Nightstands

  • Picture frames

  • Luggage racks

  • Drapery folds

  • Upholstery seams

Basically, anywhere near people (and pets!). That’s because bed bugs are attracted to body heat and carbon dioxide—so wherever we go, they try to follow.

Pro Tip: Watch a quick 60-second video to see what bed bugs look like in every stage of life—from egg to adult—so you know what to look out for.

Be Mindful of Where You Set Your Stuff

It only takes one bed bug clinging to a purse, backpack, or suitcase to start a full-blown infestation at home. Avoid placing personal items on:

  • Upholstered airplane or bus seats

  • Hotel beds or chairs

  • Someone else’s bed at a party (especially coats and handbags)

Choose hard surfaces like tables or countertops, and always hang bags on hooks when available.

Inspect Before You Unpack

Before you settle in at your hotel or Airbnb, take five minutes to do a bed bug check:

Set your luggage in the bathroom first. Tiled or metal surfaces make it harder for bed bugs to hide or crawl.
Inspect the mattress seams, bed frame, and nearby furniture. Use your phone’s flashlight if needed.
Look behind headboards and inside dresser drawers. Even curtain folds and wall outlets can harbor them.

You’re not being paranoid—you’re being smart!
